What is being decided?

The draft Wattle Range Council Long-Term Financial Plan (Plan) 2026 - 2035 has been developed and Council is seeking feedback from the community on the Plan for consideration prior to its adoption.

Background

The Plan is driven by Council's Strategic Management Plan, which sets out Council's future objectives, goals and desired outcomes for the Community.

The purpose of the Plan is to provide guidance to Council in formulating those future strategies and actions, by ensuring that Council are fully aware of the future financial impact of decisions made today. It expresses in financial terms, the activities that the Council proposes to undertake over the medium to longer term to achieve its stated objectives as outlined in its Strategic Plan 2023 -2027.

The Plan is designed as a 'high-level' summarised document, providing relevant information in relation to key performance components such as rate increases, service levels to our community, major infrastructure replacement & renewal, loan indebtedness and internal cash reserves.

It is a guide for future action based on the longer-term impact of revenue and expenditure proposals. Council has developed a Strategic Plan 2023 – 2027. Underpinning the success of the Strategic Plan is Council’s ability to fund the various strategies and actions included within. Equally as important, the Plan provides clarity on whether longer term commitments such as Council’s Infrastructure Asset Management Plans and existing services that provide community benefit, are sustainably funded into the future.

The Plan ensures that Council has the information available to pursue the implementation of the Strategic Management Plan whilst maintaining the focus on continuing to operate in a financially sustainable manner.
