What is being decided?
Council is seeking community feedback about its Naming of Roads Policy. This policy outlines Council's process for assigning and/or changing the names of roads in the Wattle Range Council area.
Background
Pursuant to section 219(5) of the Local Government Act 1999 (the Act), Council is required to have a policy that describes the process for assigning and altering road names within the Wattle Range Council area. Under the Act, Council is required to assign a name to:
each public road created by a land division
all public sealed and formed roads within the Council area, and
all formed private roads accessible to the public.
The naming of roads is an important function of Council and provides an opportunity to recognise the region’s history and heritage.
Council’s policy describes:
the process for initiating the naming/re-naming a road
the principles for determining road names
the process for consulting adjoining Councils when a road crosses the Council boundary
how Council informs the public and relevant authorities (e.g. Registrar General, utility providers and emergency services) about a new or re-named road, and
road name signage requirements.
Council values input from residents and stakeholders to ensure its decisions are informed by the views of the community. Council would welcome your comments about the Naming of Roads Policy and how it might be improved.
Get involved
This consultation is now CLOSED.
Feedback was received until 5 pm on15 February 2024.
Please note that all submissions, including the names of those responding may be tabled at a public meeting of Council unless otherwise indicated by the respondent in which case their details are to be excluded from publication.
