Have your say on Council's intention to assign the name ‘Euro Road’ to an unnamed road at Beachport.
What is being decided?
In accordance with Council’s Naming of Roads Policy, the public is invited to comment on the proposed assigning of a new name, 'Euro Road' to an unnamed road leading from the corner of Ringwood Drive and Admella Drive through to Burks Island Road, Beachport. The proposed road is highlighted in red on the image below.
* Please note a temporary sign has been installed at the intersection to guide traffic accessing the road. The provisional sign will be updated once the new road name is assigned.
Background
Following requests from the community for a name for the unmade road, Council sought input from members of the Beachport Museum committee regarding potential names.
Under the Local Government Act 1999, a council may assign or change a name to a public or private road, or to a public place.
The name ‘Euro’ is being proposed for the unnamed road in reference to the Euro shipwreck, which ran aground approximately 3.2 kilometres north‑west of Cape Banks Lighthouse in 1881 while enroute to Beachport.
The name aligns with other nearby roads that reference local shipwrecks, including Admella Drive and Geltwood Drive.
Feedback will be received until 9am on Monday, 18 May 2026.
Next steps
Council staff will consider all the feedback received and decide whether to proceed with assigning the new road name.
