How will Council use your feedback?

Your feedback will help Council understand local priorities and the preferred balance between pedestrian access, parking, road width and verges. This will be considered alongside technical requirements when determining the preferred design.

    When will works happen?

Initial drainage improvement works are planned to commence during 2027.

Major road and footpath works will follow, guided by Council's consideration of the options and feedback received.

Why is Council undertaking this engagement?

Council is seeking feedback from the Penola Community and in particular residents, property owners and businesses on Queen Street because they are the people most directly affected by the proposed upgrade.

The project will improve drainage and reduce flooding risks, but the limited width of the street means decisions need to be made about how space is allocated for footpaths, parking, verges and the roadway.

This engagement will help Council understand local priorities and identify any issues that should be considered when developing the preferred design. Feedback will be considered alongside engineering, safety and budget requirements before decisions are made.

Is Council only seeking feedback from Queen Street residents and businesses?

We encourage all members of the Penola community to share their views.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people who live, own property, or run a business on Queen Street between Julian Street West and South Terrace, as your direct experience of the street provides valuable insight into its current use and any potential impacts of proposed changes.

The project involves decisions about how limited road space is used, including footpaths, parking, verge areas and road width. People who live, own property or operate a business on Queen Street experience these conditions every day and are best placed to identify what is working, what isn't, and what should be prioritised.

This targeted consultation will help Council better understand local needs and preferences before finalising the street design. Feedback received will be considered alongside engineering requirements, safety considerations and available funding to help determine the preferred upgrade option.

By focusing on those directly affected, Council can ensure the voices of the people who use Queen Street every day play an important role in shaping its future.
