Have your say on Council's Disability Access and Inclusion Plan Actions

What's being decided?

Wattle Range Council is seeking feedback on the draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) Actions. The actions are designed to focus the efforts of Council, staff and the community towards achieving a truly inclusive environment for all residents and visitors.

The following DAIP actions have been approved in the 2023/24 Annual Business Plan and Budget:

  • Disability Access and Inclusion Working Group operating costs
  • Disability Inclusion Consultancy
  • Disability Access Audit Training for Council Building Officers
  • Wheelchair hoist and signage for the beach buggy in Beachport (subject to grant funding).

Background

Under the Disability Inclusion Act 2018, all state authorities are required to create and implement their own Disability Access and Inclusion Plans (DAIPs) reporting on them annually from 31 October 2020 and reviewing them every four years.

The Wattle Range Council Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2019-2023 and its associated actions were adopted by Council at its meeting held on 11 August 2020.

It is now time to review Council’s achievements over the past three years and where necessary refine, remove, or replace actions ensuring they meet the needs of people living with disability. The actions will also need to be realigned with Australia's Disability Strategy 2021-2031 and Inclusive SA - State Disability Inclusion Plan 2019-2023.

To commence the review process, Council invited interested community members including people with disability, their carers, family and friends to attend two separate community forums, where attendees were encouraged to share their knowledge and experiences and relevant actions were designed and discussed.

Both community forums were well attended and valuable information was provided by those in involved. This feedback has helped us to better understand the needs of our community and stakeholders have had the opportunity to provide direct input into development of the actions presented.

Get involved

Please complete the survey which asks participants to rank the draft actions in priority of what Council should "do", what Council should "advocate" for and what Council should "support".

Surveys responses and written submissions will be received until 5pm on Friday, 1 September 2023.

If you need assistance to participate in this consultation, please call Margo Phillips on (08) 8733 0900 or email council@wattlerange.sa.gov.au.
