Wattle Range Council is inviting the Beachport community to attend an upcoming information session to learn more about the proposed Beachport Coastal Adaptation Strategy and have their say on how coastal risks should be managed into the future.

The information session will outline what the Strategy covers, including a longterm plan for managing coastal hazards such as erosion and inundation (both permanent and temporary) through to the year 2100. It will also explain how potential adaptation actions may be triggered by future coastal events.

It's time to talk Beachport Coastal Adaptation Strategy

The community was invited to attend a presentation on the draft Beachport Coastal Adaptation Strategy, delivered by engineering consultants FSC Range. Sessions were held in person in Beachport on 30 April and online on 6 May 2026.

The presentations provided an opportunity for community members to ask questions, learn about the proposed adaptation actions, and share their views on future steps if certain trigger points are reached.

Proposed adaptation actions are discussed in detail from 18 minutes into the presentation.

Background

Following several years of research, modelling and consultation with key stakeholders and the community, Council is now ready to present the draft Beachport Coastal Adaptation Strategy, developed in partnership with engineering and consulting specialists FSC Range.

The Beachport Coastal Adaptation Strategy is being developed to help identify, understand and plan for future coastal hazards and risks affecting the township of Beachport. The draft Strategy and the accompanying technical report provides a long‑term framework to guide Council decision‑making and future planning for the Beachport coastline, supporting a proactive and informed approach to coastal adaptation.

Council is now seeking community feedback on the management of coastal risks associated with identified trigger points, including those arising from rare events such as a one‑in‑100‑year storm or progressive erosion, as well as the proposed adaptation pathways for managing these hazards.

The feedback received at the upcoming information sessions will help inform how Council responds to coastal risks as they arise and prioritise government spending on coastal management.

How can I have my say?

You can have your say by:

  • attending the presentation on the proposed Beachport Coastal Adaptation Strategy in person or online; and

  • answering a few questions regarding the proposed adaptation actions - Take our survey here. Responses to the survey questions will be received until Monday, 11 May 2026.

Hard copies of the Beachport Coastal Adaptation Strategy are available at Council Service Centre or Visitor Information Centres. Alternative formats are available on request.

Our consultation promise

At this stage of the Beachport Coastal Adaptation Strategy project our goal is to inform the community by providing balanced and objective information to aid community understanding of the strategy. We also seek to:

  • keep you informed; and
  • understand and acknowledge community sentiment if particular trigger points are met and share this information with Council.
