Riddoch Highway Coonawarra Speed Limit Review

What is being decided?

Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to reduce the speed limit on the Riddoch Highway, Coonawarra between Penola Bypass to Clayfield Road from 110km/h to 100 km/h.

Background

In October 2013 Council considered this matter, following a similar request and at the time Council received seven written submissions and resolved not to support a change in the limit at the time.

Due to the time since the last request and the improvements made with the Penola Bypass, Council's staff have undertaken a review of the speed limit on the road and have determined that Council seek feedback on this request and bring consultation for a review of the previous position

Please note that all comments, including the names of those responding may be tabled at a public meeting of Council unless otherwise indicated by the respondent in which case their details are to be excluded from publication.

Next Steps

A report was presented to the ordinary Council Meeting held on 11 March 2025, at which it was resolved to write to the Coonawarra Vignerons Association advising that, due to an overwhelming majority supporting no change to the speed limit, Council will not be pursuing the requested change with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport.
